Free Summer Reading Programs

Children's Reading Program

Babies & Toddlers
Young children who cannot consistently sit for a story.

  • Complete 30 early literacy activities over the summer
  • Choose any of the activities on the log
  • Record activities on the log by coloring in the dinos
  • Earn prizes!
  • Completion prize: Read, Sing, Talk, Play, Write snack container
  • Babies and toddlers who complete the program a second time will also receive a board book
  • Sign up by July 3 for a chance to win Cardinals tickets

Read Togethers
Children who cannot read to themselves but will sit for a story.

  • Read 30 books over the summer
  • Any kind of books (Picture books, audiobooks, ebooks…)
  • Record books on the log by coloring in the dinos
  • Earn prizes
  • Halfway prize: flashlight
  • Completion prize: book
  • Grand prize drawing for an ereader; keep reading for more chances to win
  • Earn more grand prize drawing chances by completing challenges
  • Sign up by July 3 for a chance to win Cardinals tickets

Readers
Children through grade 5 in the fall who can read to themselves

  • Read 10 hours over the summer
  • Any kind of books! (Chapter books, graphic novels, audiobooks, ebooks, reading to younger siblings…)
  • Records hours on the log by coloring in the dinos for every 20 minutes of reading
  • Earn prizes!
  • Halfway prize: flashlight
  • Completion prize: book
  • Grand prize drawing for an iPad, Nook or Kindle; keep reading for more chances to win
  • Earn more grand prize drawing chances by completing challenges
  • Keep reading throughout the summer for more chance to win and to earn a Star Reader yard sign when you reach 100 hours
  • Sign up by July 3 for a chance to win Cardinals tickets
Teen Reading Program
Grade 6 in the fall through high school senior in the fall.

Read 15 hours over the summer.

Any kind of books! (Chapter books, graphic novels, audiobooks, ebooks, reading to younger siblings…)

Record your hours on the log by coloring in the ­­­zombie hands.

Earn prizes!

Completion prize: book and entry in grand prize drawing for iPad Mini

Get another chance to win an iPad Mini for every additional 15 hours read.

Adult Reading Program

 

Read 20 hours over the summer.

Any kind of reading, including reading to kids and audiobooks.

Record your hours on the log by checking off an adventurer’s hat.

Once you’re done, pick up your prize (limit one per person) and enter the Grand Prize Drawing at the Library.

Get another chance to win a grand prize for every additional 20 hours read.
