RESPONSIBILITIES:

General public service duties, in addition to limited responsibility areas within a particular location, or system-wide. Responsibilities may include expertise in a certain subject area such as business or technology, or in a media such as audiovisual services, or to a special group such as children or the handicapped. System-wide responsibility for development of services may be understood to be a part of the Library Associate’s responsibility at any level.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

In addition to public service responsibilities, the Library Associate may be responsible for areas of program development which, although usually centered in one branch or location, may be system-wide. This classification may include administrative and supervisory duties in a general purpose branch.

DIRECTION RECEIVED:

Independent performance on most assignments with instruction as to general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master Degree with appropriate and needed emphasis. Suggested educational background may include:

Children’s Services: Education, Library Media, school Media
Business: MBA, MPA, Information Science

TRANSFER AND PROMOTION:

All incumbents classified as Library Associate 1 may be promoted to Library Associate 2 by approval of a professional development sequence. See Personnel Policies and Procedures #E032.1. Position reclassifications are subject to Board approval.
