RESPONSIBILITIES COMMON TO LIBRARIAN 2-3:
Limited areas of responsibility within a particular location, or system-wide in addition to general public service duties. These responsibilities may include, but shall not be limited to, expertise in a certain subject area such as business, or federal, state, and local government documents, or technology, or in a media such as audiovisual services, or to a special group such as children or the handicapped. System-wide responsibility for development of services may be understood to be a part of the professional librarian’s work at any level, including those of Librarian 1-2.
TYPICAL DUTIES OF THE LIBRARIAN 2-3:
In addition to public service, will have program responsibility in an area that is either system-wide or demand specific knowledge and background in excess of that for the Librarian 1-2. May include administrative and supervisory duties in a general purpose library.
DIRECTION RECEIVED:
Supervision and guidance relates largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters. Consults with supervisor concerning unusual problems and developments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from a library school accredited by the American Library Association with a degree of Master of Library Science. Experience levels or additional training may vary with the specific position, but at least 1 year of relevant experience should be recommended as a minimum requirement for positions classified as Librarian 2-3.
TRANSFER AND PROMOTION:
All incumbents classified as Librarian 2 may be promoted to Librarian 3 by approval of a professional development sequence. See Personnel Policies and Procedures #E032.1. Position reclassifications are subject to Board approval.
