Holidays - Full Time Employees


The following policy applies to all full time permanent tracked employees of the Library District. The generally observed holidays shall be:

New Year's Day
Martin Luther King Day
Presidents' Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Veterans' Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas Eve
Christmas Day

If Independence Day falls on Saturday, then the District shall be closed Saturday and Sunday.

If Independence Day falls on Sunday or Monday, then the District shall be closed Sunday and Monday.

If Christmas falls on Saturday, then the District shall be closed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; Friday and Saturday shall be considered holidays.

If Christmas falls on Sunday, then the District shall be closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday; Saturday and Monday shall be considered holidays.

If Christmas falls on Monday, then the District shall be closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday; Saturday and Monday shall be considered holidays.

If New Year's falls on Saturday, then the District shall be closed Saturday and Sunday.

If New Year's falls on Sunday, then the District shall be closed Sunday and Monday.

If New Year's falls on Monday, then the District shall be closed Sunday and Monday.

The District shall close at 5:00 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

Although the Library District observes Martin Luther King Day, Presidents' Day, and Veterans' Day, the branches are open and operating. Staff who work on these days may use them as floating holidays. The use of the floating holiday must be approved by the employee's immediate supervisor and may be taken any time from the date of the actual holiday through December 31st of the calendar year. The floating holidays will not carry over to the next calendar year. There will be no remuneration for unused floating holidays at the time of termination of employment.

In addition, the Library District shall be closed on Easter Sunday, Mothers' Day, Fathers' Day, and the Sundays of Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.

If an employee's normal day off coincides with the holiday, that employee may arrange to take another day off during the holiday week to insure parity.
