ADULT COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT POLICY
SUBJECT: LANGUAGE -- 400
Description: The library will collect books and other materials relating to all languages as set out by the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
Influencing Factors: The surrounding college and university libraries should be available for in-depth language and linguistic research. Demand from the library district clients for general and specialized dictionaries (English and foreign language), foreign language audiovisual materials, and conversation and phrase books will determine what materials are purchased.
Retention: The currency, condition of the material, and the amount of circulation shall determine if an item remains part of the collection.
Current selection: The main criteria for selection in this area is basic subject coverage. A wide variety of dictionaries will be purchased for reference use. No effort will be made to purchase either fiction or nonfiction in a foreign language.
Retrospective selection: Selection is limited to replacement of worn, damaged, or missing materials, in the newest edition available.
